Ted Karfakis

Ted is the founder and head of the board of Terra Sylvestris a local grassroots community based organization based in the Island of Kalamos in the Inner Ionian archipelago in Western Greece.

The organization that is a member organization of the ICCA consortium works towards conserving nature through research, raising awareness and direct on the ground actions including legal actions for conserving ecosystems and environmental justice in the area of the inner Ionian archipelago and adjacent coastlines that include restoring governance of ICCAs and protecting the rights of communities especially from land and ocean grabbing.

The organization is also involved in a number of country level initiatives to protect nature and community conserved areas along with other organizations and citizen groups.

He has worked on both research, applied conservation and advocacy for terrestrial marine and aquatic ecosystems mostly in the Americas and Europe for almost two decades.His interests focus on protecting ecosystem function, biodiversity sustainable ecosystem management and community environmental rights on both land and sea. He is a native of the island of Kalamos.
