Federico Bigaran

Biography

Federico Bigaran (ICCA Consortium Honorary member and Council representative for Europe) is a retired agronomist in Trento, Italy. In collaboration with the University of Bologna, he has carried out research in the field of irrigation and organic agriculture. He developed several initiatives on biodiversity for food and agriculture and for the conservation of local traditional breeds and vegetable resources, focusing on herders and rural commons in the Trentino region of Italy. He designed and implemented various European and national projects aimed to enhance local food products and the integration of agricultural activities with tourism, handicrafts and agroecology. He is the author of various publications concerning irrigation, community policies of mountain farming, and medicinal plants.
