Biography

Alys Cretier is a doctoral student at the University of Lausanne under the supervision of Gretchen Walters. She obtained a Master’s degree in Ethnology and Anthropology from the University of Toulouse, with a research project focusing on three types of commons in the western Alps (Italy, France and Switzerland). This research was carried out as part of the COMON project (mountain commons) run by the University of Savoie-Mont Blanc.

For her PhD thesis, Alys is researching the pastoral and forestry commons of the province of Xiberoa in the northern Basque Country, using an anthropological approach. Alys is also taking part in the multidisciplinary research project ‘Rural commons and ecological transition: from the mountains to the sea’ and is working with the VALCOM partnership chair (valuing the commons).
