Biography
I am a shepherd of white and black Castillian sheep breed. Black ones in extinction danger.
I graze my animals on communal land, and I am a neighbour of the village of Argañín in the area of Sayago of Zamora province in Spain.
I am in love with commons. I think they are something we need to protect, because it is the only way in which persons like me, who do not own land might have access to animal breeding and agriculture.
It is also the way to fix population in rural towns, to fight against climate change by having our animals graze common lands, so grasslands are conserved.
While general understanding is that common lands beloing to medieval times, they are still in force, regardless the use and traditions may be of pre-Roman origin.
It is for these reasons that I think they are a treasure to preserve.
Believing in the power of community, I am an active member of Concejo Ibérico de Comuneras (Iberian Women in Common Lands Council) and Ganaderas en Red (Networked Women Shephards).
In the framework of this activist implication, I am the local contact of European Legal Laboratory for Mutual Aid in the Commons, and for the Challenge on Legal protection of Common Lands.
